In modern marbled paper over boards with quater black leather spine and gilding on the spine; solid, square, bright, and with gold flecs in the marbled paper that catches the light. New black endpapers. The interior is toned with infrequent spotting, all text is legible. Bound in at the rear are 24 pages of musical notes on smaller and crisper paper; included in the original publication. No internal inscriptions, markings, or bookplates; all pages, including music, complete.


Paolo Antonio Rolli was an Italian librettist and poet. Born in Rome and was trained by Gian Vincenzo Gravina. From 1715 to 1744 he worked in London where he became Italian tutor to the Prince of Wales and the Royal Princesses. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. In 1744 he returned to Italy and wrote poetry, cantata texts, satires and translations. He is perhaps best known for his Italian verse translation of Milton's "Paradise Lost.”
