A first edition historical account of the Anglo-Scottish Civil War, or the Third Civil War during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Dedicated to King Charles II, who participated in the failed campaign to reinstitute the monarchy in England during Oliver Cromwell's life. Bound in original/contemporary leather over boards with a modern re-backed spine in a different leather. Spine with five raised bands in a speckled leather. Boards have a double rule border around the outside. Boards with general aging and signs of use including some scuffing; generally solid. All edges marbled, most noticeable along the lower edge. The interior is clean and clear. The pages are age toned with some infrequent spotting or rubbing, but substantially free from foxing and free from inscriptions or markings.
Provenance: On the blank verso of the title page is a bookplate from, "John Orlebar, of the Middle Temple, Esq." John Orlebar was a barrister/lawyer and Whig member of Parliament in 18th century England.
