The preface highlights that with this edition, the copyright has reverted to the author - R.H.D., Jr. having been paid relative little for the first manuscript. Includes the chapter, "Twenty-Four Years After," recouting his return to California in 1859. Bound in original burgundy cloth over boards with debossed framing on the covers and lettering on the spine. Heavily worn, slight lean, the spine is fully faded and the lettering is light; all holding firmly. Dark brown endpapers. The interior is evenly toned, with infrequent marginal spots. Overall good condition.
