First edition, fictionalized account of the of the Hurricane of 1856 that struck New Orleans and substantially altered and destroyed, L'Isle Dernière. Bound in rust red cloth over boards with coral-like design in brown with black edges; unique gilded characters spell the title on the cover, with repeat of the title and coral on the spine - author's name in black. Rubbing at edges and hinges with some fraying at corners; slight lean, holding firmly. Dated (1890) pencil signature on ffep and small old bookstore sticker on front pastedown. The interiro is clear of any other inscriptions, markings, or notations; lightly and evenly toned, clean, and clear. BAL 7918.
