First U.S. edition and first printing either simultaneous or one week after the U.K. first; one of 2,250 total copies printed. Contains the first bound edition of "The Turn of the Screw," Heny James' most famous horror novella, and the only printed edition of "Covering End," one of James attempts at playwriting turned novella. In original red cloth over boards with gilded lettering to the spine. Gilding slightly rubbed/faded but all visible. Corners mostly sharp, some rubbing at head and tail corners (minimal). Rough cut long and lower edges, trimmed and gilded top edge. Page split at spine between first blank and half title, fully holding together. Interior is very lightly and evenly toned, otherwise it is clean, clear, and with a tight spine. Overall, fine condition.
