New York: Harper and Brothers, 1893. First Edition. Containing essays on the art of illustration, especially regarding those used in Harpers publishing. Of note are essays on John Singer Sargent and Honoré Daumier. Including seven illustrations in the text plus a frontispiece portrait of Henry James under attached thin paper with a facsimile signature. Bound in green over boards with heavily guilded designs and lettering on front and spine. Very minor rubs to one corner and at tail of spine - these are pin point small, but otherwise near new in appearance. Lower edge rought cut. The interior is clean, clear, and crisp. A Fine book in nearly 'as new' condition. From the private library of Maurice Sendak with laid in paper documenting its sale. Maurice Sendak was a celebrated children's author and illustrator known for multiple works including, "Where the Wild Things Are."
