Antwerp: Ioannem Bellerum, 1562. Jakob Holl. 2nd Abridged Edition. Copy in contemporary binding of this famous description of the Scandinavian countries. This is a Latin translation, abbreviated by Cornelius Scribon Grapheus, of the original published in 1555. It is very richly illustrated with woodcuts, including legendary animals and monsters. It also features what would be the first representations of skiers ever printed. 138 woodcuts in the text. Contemporary binding attributable to the workshop of Jakob Holl (Germany, plate dated 1545) in cold-stamped sowskin, traces of clasps, spine with three ribs, handwritten title in black ink on the spine (holes filled, renewed guards, three scratches on the upper cover, some restorations; pitting and scattered spots, restoration in the lower margin of the title page, small gaps in the lower margin of sheets K3, Y2 and Y4).
