New York: Random House, 1940. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing of the first Snopes Family novel. No dust jacket. Orginally intended as a stand-alone book, it was later followed by "The Town" in 1957 and "The Mansion" in 1959. Bound in black cloth over boards with the title and author on the front cover. Author, title, and publisher on spine. Small discoloration to front cover and a few smaller spots on spine and rear. Front endsheet slightly cocked and taped to first blank in repair. Back cover and bacnk endpaper taped. A few creases and smudges to some pages, very limited in my review. Pages are clean and clear. Block is low in the covers, mostly touching the shelf with additional space to the top side; appears to be from publication.
