Rebound in the 18th century mottled calf over boards with 5 raised bands on the spine. Gold tooling designs along the spine with a red label and gilded lettering providing the title. Solidly rebound, though a little worn with some chipping to the calf and weakening at the joints - holding firmly. Text is in 2 columns and gothic type with numerous capital letter engravings. Jacobus De Voraigne (1228-1298), Archbishop of Genoa, was most known for authoring the 'Golden Legend' a work celebrating the legendary lives of the great medieval saints. He was beattified in 1816.
This edition of his sermons is printed by Guillaume Godard, a 16th century Parisian printer and bookseller, also remembered as a collector of Books of Hours.
